Business Problem

Alshaya's reporting was scattered across Oracle Data Warehouse, Algonomy, SAP BusinessObjects, and Power BI, with an aging Tableau estate — fragmented governance, duplicated cost, and inconsistent access control.

Architecture

A federated reporting framework unifying the four platforms, with Row-Level and Object-Level Security implemented across the estate for governance and controlled access, and a planned Tableau decommissioning path.

Technology

Delivery

Established a 12-member Center of Excellence with governance frameworks and delivery standards adopted across engagements, then executed the Phoenix consolidation program.

Challenges

  • Reconciling four heterogeneous platforms into one framework.
  • Implementing consistent security across diverse tools.
  • Reducing cost without disrupting business reporting.

Solution

Federated the platforms into a unified reporting framework, implemented RLS/OLS for governance, and reduced data footprint and licence cost across RMS, BlueYonder, and Algonomy.

Business Outcome

  • One governed reporting framework across four platforms.
  • Consistent, auditable access control via RLS/OLS.
  • Reduced licence cost and data footprint; improved delivery predictability.

Lessons Learned

Consolidation succeeds when a CoE owns the standards. Federation without governance just moves the fragmentation around.

Future Roadmap

Full migration to a modern semantic layer and self-service governance at scale.
